I just happened upon your blog here; I feel like you must be my soul mate from some alternate reality (since I don't think I've ever met you in this one) with your love of SY and Peanuts.

Your book sounds interesting - I have met a few hardcore SY fans over the years, some that could travel around and follow the band. I ended up living in the different parts of the country and have always managed to catch them in the cities I've lived in or places within a days drive.

I don't know that I have seen Sonic Youth 40 times, but I have probably caught them about 20 times... The first time was at age 14 in LA summer of 1986 and I was hooked. I've caught every LA area (and one SF area) show between 86 and 92. Every Minneapolis area show between 93 and 96; and all Philadelphia shows between 1998 and 2008 with the exception of the starlight ballroom show in 07 or 08 (which bummed me out)

My personal best SY show I've attended is likely:

Sept of 1992 at Castaic Lake (just outide of LA - with mudhoney and pavement opening - kurt cobain played a song or two acoustically there as well - it was the first time I saw Pavement and they were amazing as well) - that show was amazing because of the setlist, the overall vibe, and the sound. Thurston, during one song was talking to crowd members and throwing their answers to his questions into the live mix.....Some SY shows are just magical, where the sound and the people and everything just coaleseces into something greater than the sum of it's parts - this was one of those, and 'Expressway to yr skull' was played, and that's my fave all time SY song, possibly my fave song of all time by anyone..

The second show that qualifies as one of my personal best SY experiences was the 1995 lollapalooza show in Chicago. That show was special because of the setlist, they played everything I had hoped to hear, they played "expressway," and near the end of their set, while hearing "the diamond sea" for the first time (as the album hadn't been released yet) a light thunderstorm came in, seemingly in time with the music...it, again, was magical...

I think the castaic show was the best though. I'd give honorable mention to the entire Murray Street tour...For me "Murray Street" is the best of their 00's era albums, and that tour (particular the Trocadero show in Philly, which I recorded on Digital video and audio) was just great - hearing Rain on Tin live for the first time was a revelation.

Anyway, I just thought it was strange to stumble upon someone who was so into SY and Peanuts and felt compelled to share.....I didn't even mention my peanuts collection; but think books, old metal lunchboxes, snoopy flags, snoopy and woodstock bedding set from the late 70s...etc. I quit collecting that stuff a while ago, but there you go....

I will certainly look for your book.
